Эд Мерсер, once a successful career man, suddenly finds himself betrayed by his wife and an alien. This betrayal shatters his self-esteem, but he is helped by his ex-wife Kelly, who believes in his abilities and tries to help him regain his confidence. They find themselves in unexpected roles aboard the spaceship "Orville", where Ed becomes the captain and Kelly his senior assistant.

Despite not being the most prestigious ship, their team demonstrates that energy, passion for their work, and unity can overcome any difficulties. Together, they will have to face various challenges and problems, including personal disagreements and global threats to the Universe, but they are ready to take on the challenge and save the day.
